Vegas
This piece was inspired by an image created by an AI image generator in 2023. The prompt it was given was to depict a portrait of Las Vegas as a human. Trained on all the data and imagery available about Las Vegas on the internet, the AI program spit something out that to me, looks unquestionably Vegas. This woman does not exist, nor has she ever existed, yet she’s familiar. One could easily imagine what her voice sounds like, or what she might be about to say to you. The AI nailed it, well almost. The image still holds tiny human impossibilities, places the AI glossed over or misinterpreted, relegating this Vegas woman to the uncanny valley for just a little bit longer. By the time this image is posted, AI image generating software will likely have outgrown these tiny mistakes. This painting documents a brief moment in time, what we’ll soon look back on as “right before”.
Original artwork is 20”x16”, watercolor on Arches cold-pressed watercolor paper, 300gsm. Giclee prints available on archival paper.
